Dear Red Star Players, Coaches, and Parents,

I hope this message finds you safe and healthy. The shelter-in-place order for California and Santa Clara County has affected all of us and we learned they were extended until May 1st and May 3rd respectively. We also just found out US Club Soccer is suspending all soccer activities through April 30 but has not canceled the season. NorCal has a scheduled meeting this coming Monday and we anticipate that they will also extend the suspension of league activities through that period.

Red Star also will extend its pause of the season and cancel in-person practices and games in accordance with US Club Soccer. I know this is disappointing to all of us — coaches, parents and especially our players — but it is a necessary measure to protect the health and safety of everyone in our community.

We remain optimistic that the window to resume the season will open up in May. In the meantime, we will keep the players engaged virtually. Coaches are conducting Zoom meetings and we are launching a dedicated page on our website to keep players active with Red Star soccer while observing all physical distancing rules. https://www.redstarsoccer.net/players-corner/

US Club Soccer has stated that discussions regarding refunds for the season are premature as they expect the season to resume. However, our Red Star board of directors has been meeting regularly to look at all options even though a significant portion of our operating costs have been incurred. We will finalize a decision regarding credits once the plan for the rest of the season has been determined.

The board is meeting regularly and continues to work hard to ensure that we pay the coaches through the end of the season, and support our families while maintaining the financial viability of the club.

Thank you for your understanding and patience, and I wish all the best for your family during these challenging times.
