Youth Competitive Program
Red Star Soccer Academy is a non-profit educational organization dedicated to youth player development. We offer world-class training for eager young athletes who aspire to reach their full potential in soccer. We are affiliated with the US Soccer Federation and US Club Soccer. Red Star teams compete in Nor Cal Premier League and US Club Soccer sanctioned tournaments.
Red Star competitive teams are coached by licensed professional coaches. The coaching staff is carefully selected to meet the needs and capacities of the players. The Red Star coaching staff is led by a nationally licensed and recognized Directors of Coaching who oversees and monitors the effectiveness of Red Star coaches as they implement an age and developmentally tuned curriculum.
TEAM FORMATION
Open Tryouts are held once annually in May. Players will be notified after tryouts if they have earned a spot on a team within their age group. Final team rosters will be made following the conclusion of the Red Star tryouts training session.
At any time, drop-in assessments are available. To arrange a drop-in assessment, please contact the Boys and Girls Directors of Coaching.
All soccer decisions, including player placement/movement and playing up an age group, are made by Academy coaches.
ANNUAL CALENDAR
The competitive soccer calendar runs between August 1st till november 30th and February 1st till May 31st. The Academy’s annual calendar is divided into two 4 month playing seasons with optional 2-month rest beetween seasons, recovery, cross-training sessions and camps are available during off season breaks.
MULTI-SPORT ATHLETES
Red Star encourages children to explore and enjoy multiple sports. During the secondary soccer season (spring season), missed practices and games are somewhat less of an issue when schedule conflicts arise.
SCHOLARSHIPS
Scholarships and payment plans are available upon request. Please contact Red Star staff for details. Red Star offers convenient online registration and accepts credit cards.
Fall Season
- The season runs approximately 4 months (August – November).
- All players must attend the pre-season camp in late July.
- Each team practices 2x per week, approximately 90 min per session.
- Players may also attend a 3rd optional practice, which may include goalkeeper training, agility/balance/coordination, street soccer, or other areas as determined by coaches.
Fee’s: Range from $1,350-$1,450 depending on the actual length of the season and number of practices and games.
NorCal Premier Fall League
- Games can be scheduled on both Saturdays and Sundays.
- Each team plays between 8 and 10 league games, plus possibly 7-9 NorCal State Cup Tournament games (dependent on team level and performance).
- Teams participate in 1-2 tournaments; as players mature, tournaments and travel increase in order to find appropriate competition.
- Each player receives an Individual written player evaluation and parent conference to discuss progress and areas for improvement..
- The season ends with semi-open tryouts.
Winter Session (optional)
- This season runs for 2 months, December and January.
- Sessions focus on rest, recovery & cross-training.
- Players may also participate in an optional futsal season that also runs for 2 months, December and January.
Spring Season
- The spring season runs for approximately 4 months (February through May).
- Each team practices 2x per week, approximately 90 min per session.
- Players may also attend a 3rd optional practice, which may include goalkeeper training, agility/balance/coordination, street soccer, or other areas as determined by coaches.
Fee’s: Range from $1,350-$1,450 depending on the actual length of the season and number of practices and games.
Summer Session (optional)
- The summer session runs for approximately 1.5 months (early-June through July).
- Sessions focus on rest, recovery & cross-training.
- Red Star offers a diverse selection of summer camps, which offer players the opportunity to hone their skills in both full-day and half-day sessions.
- Summer futsal is also an option for Red Star players.
- Summer Red Star training sessions are mandatory for all members of youth competitive teams.
FEE STRUCTURE
The Red Star Soccer Board of Director’s structures fees to ensure a quality community product that aligns itself with our Mission Statement.
The Fall and Spring season Program Fee typically ranges from $1,350-$1,450 depending on the actual length of the season and the number of practices and games.
The fees cover the following items:
- Coaches’ salaries
- Director’s Fees
- Continued Coaching Education (We continually provide resources to our Coaches to improve or enhance their coaching education thereby improving our programs for our children.)
- Coaches training equipment
- Additional skills training (ABC’s, COE, Goalkeeper)
- NorCal State Cup Tournament and Showcase events (allocations based on age and level of team)
- League and governing organizational fees (US Club Soccer – NorCal Premier)
- Background checks on all coaches and volunteers
- Insurance fees
- Picture Day Memory Mate (Fall Season Only)
- Online registration & Website
- Credit card merchant fees
- Referee Fees
- Office/Administrative operations
- Field permits, set-up, and maintenance fees
- Scholarship Fund (This fund is specifically setup each year as a resource pool to help our less fortunate children who want the opportunity to play and grow)
- Community-based projects (Positive Coaching Alliance, community outreach programs)
- Summer Preseason Camp (U8 boys and girls only)
The Program Fee does NOT include uniforms, training equipment, warm-ups, backpack, mandatory Summer Preseason Camp, travel expenses to games or tournaments, or optional programs such as Futsal or Summer Camps.
PLAYER UNIFORMS & GEAR
Player uniform expenses are not included in the Program Fee. All competitive program players will be required to purchase the new set of uniforms for this year which will be the RED STAR official uniform through the Fall 2026 season. (The uniform cycle runs two years and is based on uniform availability from Adidas.)
The cost will be around $280.00 which will include:
- 2 customized Adidas jerseys (red and black)
- 2 Adidas shorts
- 2 pair of Adidas socks (black)
- 1 customized Adidas Backpack (red)
- 2 customized Adidas training t-shirts
- Goalkeepers will have the option to purchase the Adidas keeper jersey.
Optional items and spirit wear are available for purchase at the Red Star Boutique.
PRESEASON CAMP
Red Star Summer Camps are now open for registration on our website. Please note that our pre-season Mandatory Camps for Boys and Girls now have a new format. We split the full day camp format from previous years into 2 weeks of half-day camp for all age groups. This change will give families the flexibility to choose from 2 weeks instead of only one option and will also give our younger age groups a more suitable soccer camp experience. For players who are in town we strongly recommend participating in both weeks of camp.
